Madonna, born as Madonna Louis Veronica Ciccone, is now considered the most successful female musical artist of all time. Since the beginning of her career in the 1980s, she has become the first multimedia pop icon in history, with more than 300 million records sold worldwide and a huge cultural impact on the music industry. The artist was born in the US state of Michigan, on August 16, 1958, from an Italian and Canadian family. After dropping out at the University of Michigan at age 19, she moved to New York with just $35 in her pocket to pursue her dream of an artistic career, but she had to face many hardships, including hunger.
